gatlinburg tennessee is a town at the foothills of smoky mountain national park. it is a bit of a touristy town but has some fun things to do whether you’re there as a family or a couple.

moonshine tasting

one of our favorite activities in gatlinburg was moonshine tasting! each place has its own cost and procedure, but they are all fun! you get to try multiple flavors of moonshine.

you can even tour a distillery and see how the moonshine is made! moonshine has an illegal history, but is now a legal profession.

i recommend walking around the square after the tasting, it will make everything more fun!

the best italian

once you’ve had some moonshine you will probably be hungry. walk on down the main drag and get some of the best italian in gatlinburg. nick got a calzone that was as big as his head!

their garlic knots were really tasty too!

smoky mountain national park

our main reason for coming to gatlinburg was to get to smoky mountain national park. this is one of the few free national parks in the us.

if you are ever in this area, your trip would not be complete without at least a day in smoky mountain national park. read more of what to do there in my post here.

old timey pictures

another tourist activity we found fun after our moonshine tasting was taking old timey photos. these types of pictures are available in a lot of tourist towns but i’ve never actually done one before.

there are so many different options in town, so just pick whichever has a good deal for the day.

other things to do

in gatlinburg there is also a ripley’s belive it or not, an aquarium and a wax museum. on the main drag there is a ski lift for scenic views, an arcade, and just about anything you could want you can find in this little town at the foot of the smoky mountains.
